In Zambia - "The Family: An Original Institution"

The Family Ministry Group which has been working on the book - "The Family: an Original Institution" since 2004 used the occasion of the first Deanery Pastoral Council Meeting on February 14th 2009 at St. Mary's Parish, Choma to present the book to the public for the first time ever.

Bishop Emilio Patriarca of Monze Diocese, who commissioned this work, was present. He was the chief Launcher for the event. In presenting the book as a Pastoral Tool for the diocese, he had this to say: "In Africa money has been poured into the work of assisting refugees. But material help itself will never renew humanity. Renewal has to come from within humanity itself. And the renewal of humanity from within, begins with the renewal of the human family and the human individuals within that family. That is why the work of the Marriage Encounter and Family Ministry are so vital. If our families are in ruins, if conditions prevailing in society are so adverse to peace in family life, we have to bring about a revolution in the thinking of all members of the human family, to bring the healing so desperately needed."

The MSHR are engaged in this important work in all the 14 countries where they are present. At Zimba in Zambia, Srs. Noel Mary and Justina are engaged in a Family focused apostolate. They work with vulnerable families struggling to meet the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing; they work with orphans and vulnerable children, consequences of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, in the form of school fees other school requirements and sometimes food. They situate each child within the context of his/her family and try to empower the families to take responsibility for meeting the basic needs of their children and other dependants.

This costs time and money and the Sisters are always very appreciative of any help which we receive from them.
